It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Sheila Mayer, a woman of boundless kindness and faith. Sheila was born on December 9, 1947, and transitioned from this life on June 14, 2026. Throughout her 78 years, she touched many lives with her gentleness and unwavering spirit of perseverance.
Driven by an endless love for God, Sheila was a devoted family member and a loving friend to many. She was a gifted writer, a woman of many smiles and much laughter, and someone who celebrated life’s simple moments. She was happiest when surrounded by her family and perhaps even a bit happier with a milkshake. The spirit that characterized her life brought love and joy to all those around her.
Sheila’s legacy of gentleness, perseverance, and faith will be carried forward by those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her remarkable life will forever be an inspiration and a testament to the power of an indomitable spirit strengthened by resilience. Sheila will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Katherine Mayer; her father, George Mayer; her sisters, Marie Mayer, Kathleen Mayer, Marge Hilty (Mayer), and Anna Mae Hooder (Mayer); and her brothers, William Mayer, George Mayer, and Regis Mayer. Sheila is survived by her loving brothers, Hugh Mayer, Norbert Mayer, and John Mayer, as well as her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws who were blessed by her life. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the family and all who mourn Sheila’s passing.
A Memorial Mass celebrating Sheila’s life will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Christ Our Savior Parish, Saint Boniface Catholic Church (North Side), located at 2208 East Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15212 (Phone: 412-761-1552). We invite all who knew and loved Sheila to join us in honoring her memory.
