Ruth Naomi Dorsey
“Miss Ruth”
Ruth Naomi Dorsey, age 91, passed away on Friday, November 13th, 2020. She was born on January 30th, 1929, in East Conemaugh, Johnstown, Pennsylvania. The daughter, and third child, of Arthur Lee Dorsey Sr. and Sammie Elizabeth Demombrane. The last remaining sibling of; Bernice E. Rigby (Detroit, Michigan), Mildred A. Dorsey (Pittsburgh, Pa), and Arthur Lee Dorsey Jr. (Pittsburgh, Pa) all deceased.
Ruth completed her GED while attending adult night school, where she excelled in mathematics. Some of her employment history includes; cleaning offices at night, working for approximately 10 years at WPXI Channel 11 television station, 10 years as a Pennsylvania caregiver, and over 20 years of devoted membership to The Salvation Army Corp. Always having the desire to work and serve, Ruth continued faithfully volunteering; with The Salvation Army for 20 years, as a Pennsylvania election poll worker, and 15 years of dedicated service to Feed the Homeless. In her words, "working for The Salvation Army was a joyful job." Ruth's commitment to helping others is a true testament to her character and immensely loving heart. Some of her hobbies include; puzzles, attending plays at the Heinz Hall, traveling, and playing cards. Gin rummy and 500 tonk were undoubtedly her favorite card games to play and easily win. On occasion, she was known to cheat during games, but family always allowed it just to witness her priceless smile and exuberant laugh.
Ruth Naomi Dorsey is survived by her four beloved children; Beverly Irene Ohemeng of Hilton Head, SC, Robinette Dorsey of Lorton, VA, Steven Anthony Dorsey (m. Lesia Dorsey) of Atlanta, GA, and Stacey Lynn Dorsey-Stephens (m. Daniel Stephens) of Pittsburgh, PA. Loving Grandmother to; Jerrick Anthony Dorsey Sr. of Falls Church, VA, Calista Ivy Frost of Pittsburgh, PA, Jamaal Anthony Eugene Dorsey of Washington D.C., Jacinta Naomi Louise Dorsey of Lorton, VA, and Steven Anthony Martin Dorsey of Atlanta, GA. Cherished Great-Grandmother to; Jerrick Anthony Dorsey Jr. of Washington D.C. and Donnie Ray Dorsey of Washington D.C. For the last several years of life, Ruth's niece Stella Dorsey of Pittsburgh, PA served as her devoted caregiver. She will be forever remembered by several nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to share their memories of Miss Ruth with her family during Visitation Service and Celebration of Life. The service will be held at Stephen M. Brady Funeral Home, 920 Cedar Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA, on Thursday, November 19th, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army, 327 South Home Ave, Pittsburgh, PA, 15202, in loving memory of Ruth Naomi Dorsey.
