Nancy Wilson Small
Nancy Wilson Small passed away on June1, 2024 after a struggle with cancer. She is survived by her beloved partner Del Rodrigquez, her siblings John Smallfield (Margie), Larry Small, and Susan Small (Ken Joseph), her daughter Noora and grandchildren Markus, Camille and Chase, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Nancy was born April 26, 1953 in Dayton OH where she lived until the family moved to Schutz American School in Alexandria, Egypt. In 1961, the family moved to Pittsburgh where she graduated high school. She graduated from Chatham College with a degree in Social Work.
She loved music – playing piano, guitar and singing. She was a member of the Renaissance City Women's Choir, the Community Gospel Choir, and Athena's Fire. She was a member of two women's groups: Kikere Sisters and Empowering Women's Dreams. She sponsored 2 girls at a school for AIDS orphans in Uganda. She was a tutor for English as a Second Language students as well as elementary and high school students. She loved puzzles – crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and Scrabble. She also loved animals, especially cats and elephants.
She was dedicated to social justice issues. And she was a compassionate and loving person, interested in learning about people, especially young people. She was an amazing grandmother with a deep and affectionate relationship with her grandchildren. She will be missed by all.
Funeral Service will be Wednesday 6/19 at 1:00 at Brady Funeral Home followed by a meal at the Allegheny Unitarian Universalist Church, 416 W. North Ave, Pgh 15212.
The family asks that , in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee (www.elephants.com).
