Joy J. Loomis (Kokoros)
Age 77 of McCandless Township,
passed peacefully with family on
Tuesday, October 3, 2023.
Born in Erie, PA, daughter of the late John and
Mary Kokoros and sister
of James Kokoros and their infant
sister, the late Beverly Kokoros.
Beloved wife of 50 years to Nicholas Loomis, and
loving mother of Margo (Josh) Elliott
and Theodore (Karleigh) Loomis.
Proud yiayia of Selena, Sara, Eli (Elliott),
Niko and Noella (Loomis). Grandma to her grandpups Bailey
and Murphy and the late Sasha and Walter.
Beloved “Sweet Pea” to her many cousins.
She will be missed by her brother-in-laws,
sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, close cousins,
and her many friends and co-workers.
Joy was a longtime and devoted member of the
Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
She sang beautifully in the church choir along with her husband, Nick,
for a combined 115 years of service. She was a member of
AHEPA’s Daughters of Penelope, served numerous Greek food festivals, and
coordinated the church Christmas pageants.
Joy is a graduate of Edinboro College (University) and
graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Englis
h and masters degree in Elementary Education. She began her career as a first-grade elementary teacher in the North Hills School District.
Joy then spent many years as a loving stay-at-home Mom to Margo and Ted.
She continued her career as an English Second Language (ESL) teacher for over 25 years,
achieving the ESL World of Gratitude Award for her impeccable service as an educator.
She was an active member of the union with the public school system
and a compassionate advocate for ESL students and families.
The family would like to thank everyone who took care of Joy, came to visit, or helped her family in any way,
including sincere gratitude to Janeen Nazak,
her loving goddaughter and Lori Hawkins who devoted
so much love and time to her care.
Everyone is welcome to remember Joy and pay their respects to her and her family on
Monday, October 9, 2023 from 2-8 pm with a Trisagion Service at 6:30pm at
Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church,
985 Providence Blvd., Pittsburgh, PA. 15237
The funeral service will be held at the church on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at 11 am with a viewing at 10 am.
Burial will follow at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cemetery
