It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph A. Funtal, a loving son, brother, and uncle, who left us on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at the age of 71.
Born on August 19, 1953, to Dorothy and Joseph E. Funtal,
Joseph spent much of his life on Spring Garden Avenue, surrounded by his family.
He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Dorothy, his younger brother, Jimmy, and his sister, Vera (James Duchak) and Joyce who was like a sister.
He leaves behind his father, Joseph, his brother, Michael, and his nieces, Kaela (Josh) Meyers and Hannah (Christopher) Wadding, great niece and nephews and extended family in Wisconsin who will miss him dearly.
Joseph lived a full and joyful life, always surrounded by the love of his family and friends. Known affectionately as Joey, or the “Sheriff” he was involved in various activities and programs that brought him joy, including bowling for the Special Olympics, working for Goodwill, and attending CCD at Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish, among others.
In recent years, Joseph resided in Moon Township under the care of Verland, where he formed meaningful bonds with both his housemates and the dedicated staff who cared for him so lovingly. As a family, we often joked that "Joey truly thrived there," and indeed, he did. We are deeply grateful for the care and compassion provided to him, and we take comfort knowing his final years were filled with happiness.
We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Good Samaritan Hospice. Their unwavering dedication and kindness ensured that Joey was comfortable and at peace during his final days. We are truly thankful for all those who cared for him.
