Bryan Rice, born to Janice and Frank Rice Sr, began his life's journey on March 19, 1955, in Houston, Texas, and his remarkable and at times difficult story came to a close on January 18 , 2025.
Bryan's family's life was a testament to resilience and adaptability as he navigated multiple moves, from Houston Texas, Sacramento, California, then to Kokomo, Indiana, Tampa Air Force Bases, and finally to Pittsburgh, respectively.
His father Frank J Rice Sr distinguished career as an Air Force officer and subsequent role as an executive at Westinghouse in Pittsburgh inspired his kid's to cultivate their passions. While residing in Plum Borough, Bryan discovered his love for swimming at the YMCA, ice skating, exploring local parks, and the endless parties in the game room of 15 Aloha Rd Rice childhood home.
Bryan enjoyed playing baseball, camping, hunting, fishing and boating. He enjoyed playing on a darts team at the Golden Goblet.
He was deeply interested in Pittsburgh sports the Steelers, Pirates and Penguins and he had so many shirts which wore everyday. So did his beloved stepdad John Benes (who joined the family in 1977) between the two they must have had a million Pittsburgh sports shirts!
His 30-year career as a skilled machinist was marked by his active role in union affairs, where he held various positions, including Secretary and Delegate, and traveled extensively to support fellow machinists best interests.
Bryan had his moms warm personality, story telling and infectious laugh and loved sharing with many friends ,family and cousins in Des Moines, Iowa and other various cities. One memory in particular I remember staying up all night with cousins as we laughed hysterically at Bryan's story telling. Let's not even get started about boating stories.
He had memberships in the Renton Club, Italian Club, and Lone Star, where he often engaged with his good friends who he enjoyed so much time with. I always knew I could find he and Chuck Limberg at the Lone Star to watch a ballgame with.
His dad, Frank Rice Sr., passed away in 1970; his older brother, Frank Rice Jr., passed away in 1984; his stepfather, John Benes, died in 2016; and his mother, Janice Benes, passed away in 2024. He is survived by his sister, Patricia Rice, his nephew, Rich Rice (Jennifer) and great nephew, RJ Rice and great niece, Brianna Rice. His sister Patricia Rice, along with her mother's moral support and Melissa Negley - Gott took care of him for many years and we enjoyed Bryan's company - he will be so miss.
