Obituary

ALBERT ADAM BRUNN JR.

On Friday, April 7, 2023, Albert “Junior”, age 93, of Stanton Heights.

Albert will be remembered for his good nature, patience, kind heart, and for his devotion to his wife, family, and to the Lord.  Albert and his late wife Sarah devoted countless hours over many decades to peacefully advocate for unborn babies. Their tireless efforts with the Pittsburgh pro-life movement likely saved many lives and left a legacy of love and faith that lives on within the many friends they have in the pro-life community in Pittsburgh.  Born on November 24, 1929 to Albert and Veronica “Vera” (Pognantis) Brunn, Albert left high school after the 10thgrade to join the family bakery in Herron Hill. After the business closed, Albert went to work as a pastry chef, first at the Allegheny Country Club, and then at Kaufmann’s department store in downtown Pittsburgh where he worked for manyyears until his retirement in the 1990’s.

Albert “Jr” met his future bride, Sarah “Sally” Ann Doerfler at a dance at West View Park in October of 1955. Jr. bought Sally a milkshake. Milkshakes were more expensive than a pop, so this impressed Sally that Jr. was not cheap. Jr. was driving a 1954 Volkswagen Bug at the time. Jr. drove Sally home after the date. Sally’s mom was helping her youngest daughter with homework. That impressed Jr. as he was looking for a woman who would not only be a good wife, but also a good mother. After dating for a few months, Jr. and Sally planned a wedding and were married at St. Mary of the Mount Church in Mt. Washington on October 20, 1956.  In addition to raising eleven (11) children with Sarah, Albert spent many nights and weekends renovating their home in Stanton Heights. Albert proudly taught all of the children to ride a bike, and later to drive using the family’s Volkswagen beetle. Insulation was added to every outside wall to conserve heat. Cabinets, cupboards & closets were added in every space available.

Albert was the beloved husband of almost 64years to the late Sarah A. (Doerfler) Brunn; loving father of Frank (Lisa) Brunn, Alicia (Stephen) Podobinski, Mary Rose Neill, Lawrence Brunn, Theresa (Tim) Malac, Angela (Chris) Tomak, Eileen (Ron) Petula, Thomas (Michelle) Brunn, David (Christine) Brunn, Robert (Stephanie) Brunn, and Richard Brunn; brother of Irene “Honey” Deutsch, formerly of Lawrenceville, living in Las Vegas; brother-in-law of Rita Waxter of Mt. Washington.

Also survived by grandchildren, Cristine Marie (Brunn) Splinis, Crystal Marie (Ricupero) Manke, David Patrick Ricupero (Kristen), Lori Ann (Ricupero) Lescovitz, Jillian Kay Brunn, Joseph McLeod Neill, Devin Chase Brunn, Sara Marian Neill, Nicole Veronica (Tomak) Kowalski, Stephanie Lynne Malac, Megan Irene (Neill) Da La Cruz, Joshua William Tomak, Michael Timothy Malac, Kayla Paige Tomak, Allison Nicole Petula, Matthew David Malac, Jessica Anne Tomak, Ryan Matthew Petula, Vaunden Thomas Brunn, Flavia Eugenia Brunn, Suzanne Elizabeth Tomak, Riley Ann Brunn, Carsen Robert Brunn, Jennifer Rose Tomak, Dimitri Albert Brunn, Lindsey Elizabeth Brunn, Kelsey Madaline Brunn, Zackary Stephen Tomak, and Sebastian Alexander Brunn. Also survived by great-grandchildren, Caitlin Alyssa Splinis, Jesse Lee Collins-Brunn, Athanasios “Thano” Elefterios Splinis, Cole Lawrence Collins-Brunn, Vincent Romano Splinis, Bennett Patrick Manke, Clovyr Shane Wallace, Victor John Lescovitz, Vincent Patrick Ricupero, Samuel David Lescovitz, Rowan Kay Wallace, Nora Francine Ricupero, Eleanor Nancy Kowalski,Jansy De La Cruz-Neill, and Jalisa De La Cruz-Neill; and many nieces, cousins, and friends, including many good friends within the Pittsburgh pro-life community.
